It is very important that everybody aboard should have adequate travel and medical insurance, especially your skipper.
A comprehensive insurance policy for sailing holidays can often be hard to find – exclusions, territorial limits, who’s at the helm; the list is endless. It is also important to have a policy in place when the holiday is booked so that if you do find that you are unable to travel as planned, most booking costs can be reimbursed.
For crew, most standard travel policies should cover you for sailing within territorial waters. Please ensure you double-check when purchasing a policy.
Fortunately, an easy option, (for our UK residents) is to take a policy with Topsail Insurance. These policies are designed specifically for sailing holidays. Looking for damage security insurance for your holiday?

Most charter companies will ask you to pay a returnable security deposit, usually taken as a credit card pre-authorisation upon embarkation. In the event of any loss or damage to the yacht, an amount would be deducted from the deposit.
This of course exposes charterers to a certain amount of risk, which isn’t always the type of worry one needs on holiday! To negate this situation, some charter companies offer a non-returnable waiver – a little like the excess on your car insurance.
